Many artists who sell many more records than Patti
Smith have found themselves without a label when that
label decides it's going to purge "underperformers".

Does she need to be "platinum"? No.

She does need to be gold. As does anyone who
enjoys being on a major label.

Bonnie found herself without a home at Warner
Brothers after many years for just such reasons.
