Ani & indie records (was "selling millions")

Someone asked how Ani DiFranco sold all her own
records.

She did it all herself, starting at about age 18, and
then founded her own company/record label, Righteous
Babe--and she set it up in her (and my)economically
depressed hometown of Buffalo, NY, where she's one of
the strongest supporters of local business. Selling
her own stuff made her more money, since less of it
went to a corporate label, and gave her complete
artistic control.

This is a pretty new path, still being stomped into
existence by a very few performers. To the best of my
knowledge, there was little or none of this by new,
just-starting-out artists when Patti began.
