I think that Ani's music appeals to a much wider demographic...I know kids
age 12 up to 30+ who love her because she speaks to them deeply in the way
patti speaks to some of us....I know there are younger people who've
discovered patti and that's great....but I think most of us are older and
were around in the 70's in some capacity and into patti in our teen years of
angst, etc. Ani's music isn't in the same category as patti...its very
gender aware whereas patti speaks of genderlessness as a good place for an
artist to work from, as there are less boundaries..Ani is also extremely
accomplished on guitar and has great lyrics, she's sharp as a whip and also
looks the part (pierced, clothing choices) of disaffected Gen X...Patti has
the lyrics over Ani by far, but Ani can play that guitar....I'm just
wondering how the other living CB's bands are doing record sale
wise...Blondie's doing well, Television had the one cd that seemed to
disappear and go out of print real fast....Richard Hell has his spoken word
stuff....Jim Carroll has a few pieces of vinyl that went to cd as well as a
new cd...wonder how that did???? Can't believe it did better than
patti...Tom Verlaine hasn't put out any new stuff in years...I wonder how
Sonic Youth sell??? (altho they weren't players at CB's??). I would have to
say patti got under my skin with horses and then again with Gone Again, for
two different reasons, as I was in a different place and age for Gone
Again....IMHO, jtc
