Faced with this impotence, Ralph has decided that, like

What's sad is that his "intellectual" bases are now
a very familiar part of the vocabulary - they have been 
for thirty years - and he makes the mistake of assuming
that the country as a whole (and really, the lefties in 
it) are as dimwitted as his malnourished zealots, to whom
he has to repeatedly explain simple concepts.
