i know the woman you mean. she is a politician but i cant remember her office.
part of arafat's problem is that his english is so poor. he should always use
a translator when speaking to the american press. this is just another facto
r in the palestinian's disasterous public relations effort. edward said writes
about this at length.
the two must frustrating aspects of what is going on now, for me, are:
1. the almost unbelievable bias in the us media in favor of israel
and
2. the fact that even in a city as politically charged as austin there seems to
be so little genuine debate going on about this topic. everyone agrees it is
"tragic", but where - - and forgive me for writing in bumber-sticker speak - -
is the outrage? why aren't the students protesting? why aren't poets banging
their fists on to podiums?
where the hell is the american left?
