Hmmm. I'm dubious about a couple of things here. First, I'm not
convinced of the ability of a digital watermark to survive arbitrary
transformations of the content (i.e., different MP3 encoders and
various bit rates). Secondly, and probably more important for the
commercial aspect, I thought that a number of large radio stations had
their music libraries on hard disks for remote operation -- that is,
when CDs arrive they are ripped onto hard disks, and then the music
programmer can just do it all in software. Especially important for
all those Clear Channel stations that run remote out of San Antonio
while pretending to be local to the market.
If that's true I'd guess discs marked "do not play in computer" would
just be tossed.
