Just to add to Gordon's comments, this was a sombre evening, but the
performance of Peaceable Kingdom was an appropriate end to the
programme (I realise that there are quite a few people who find this a
hard song to like). Seeing Patti in the foyer afterwards also cheered
us up no end, and we left on a happier note - in my case clutching a
signed copy of CrossSection...
It is some time since I had seen Tilda Swinton - I've just checked the
date and it was 1995, when she was in an installation at the
Serpentine Gallery, sleeping in a glass box. The piece she read by
Susan Sontag included many references to Virginia Woolf, making a
unspoken connection to Patti's performances at the Charleston Festival
two years ago.
The QEH was selling a limited edition broadside of Peaceable Kingdom,
which Patti had signed that afternoon. Unfortunately it did not show
a limitation number and was not dated. I was told that there were
'about 100 copies' - the money from them was all going to a charity,
but I've now forgotten which (probably for Iraq, I think).
kind regards
Andrew
