Thanks for the article, Seena--on all fronts here! ;-)
I, for one, find it very confusing (being, of course, way out here in the
Pacific NW) all these developments taking place waaay over there in
Bowery-land. (Not to be confused with Opryland lol!)
What does Hillie need to do to 'prove' he can pay the 40 grand rent? Why, if
the lease expires in August, did he want to schedule a benefit for that
month?
Or does it run out at the END of August?
And will THIS prove he can garner the cash to pay rent? It all sounds so
fishy, and probably is, but I'm still wanting to dig, literally and
figuratively.
If, in fact it is true that he didn't know about the rent increase, of course
he shouldn't have to pay interest on the sum, but he should agree to pay the
back-rent, just because it would look better. And he shouldn't have said
outright he wouldn't pay the back rent, as is intimated in the article here.
IMHO.
What truly IS going on here--Hillie says both he AND Rosenblatt are doing 'a
good job'---is this a sarcastic remark or is he trying to make nice?!
You there--in NYC--wtf is going on?!
Inquiring 2000+miles away mind(s) want to know!!
Because from here, it looks like the 'non-profit' org wants only money (since
the Bowery is now 'upscale'--who'd'a thunkit...) and that Hillie is a bit
confused as to what to do next. In fact, he seems a bit confused about alot of
things, from what I've read here and in other articles. But see, I don't KNOW
the guy, and since I'm on the side of keeping CB's, I'd like to be on his
side, and to do that I need to know what you NYC guys (and gals, Seena et al!
;-) ) know about this from the 'inside'. IS Hillie a flake? ARE these people
taking advantage of that and running with it? DOES he have a legitimate beef?
Or is it a little of all of the above?
I agree, the owners are looking like money-grubbing greedy bastards. What else
is new. But to be so slimy as to gladhand Hillie and then not plan on leasing
to him no matter what he does? I doubt very much there IS an answer to the
question of 'proving' he can continue to pay rent--I think that's a ruse.
I think that the first article I read about it, when it first came to
light--the one that said something like 'this kind of establishment will hurt
the neighbourhood, attracting miscreants' or something of that general
nature--was, pardon the pun, right on the money. But....I need more info! NYC
punker/streetsmart info!
Anybody?
Still confuz-ed,
XO-GLenna!!

off the CBGB's location. But the fight's not over yet.... xxo- Seena
