Re: Patti – Meltdown – 23 June 2005

Some more Meltdown moments from Thursday evening.

At 6.30 pm on the free stage there was a play, inspired by Brecht,
performed by pupils from the Lilian Baylis Technology School. Patti
was tied up doing a sound-check, so Tilda Swinton did the
introductions on her behalf, and read Brecht's poem "General, your
tank is a powerful vehicle".

As a follow-up to the "Robert Wyatt nearly ran over my foot incident",
and as part of what my daughter has referred to as my "week of minor
celebrity encounters", I then had the thrill of Tilda Swinton sitting
next to me through the play. I've seen her a great deal over the last
few days, so I'm hoping that I can work this up into an anecdote about
her stalking me...

At the end of the play Patti appeared to congratulate and hug each of
the children, and assure them that their piece was one of the coolest
Meltdown acts.

After the Stand Bravely Brother concert there was a free concert on
the Ballroom stage - first the Dresden Dolls, then Martha Wainwright.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Dresden Dolls, but had to skip Ms Wainwright
to avoid missing my train home (again).

kind regards

Andrew
