Cool!!!!! Thanks for the rundown on PBS! I had known about the Beatles one
(Beatlefan that I am!) and of course sat rapt last night for the first Bob
installment. What a show! I found the style wonderful and my 10yo watched as
much of it as he could before he fell asleep on the couch--but he did get to
catch Odetta--when he saw her he almost fell out of his chair! "Who is
THAT?!!! She's COOL!!!!"
My little chip off the ol' block! (My 14yo went to bed--I guess we sang too
much of 'Tambourine Man' stereophonically into each ear to bug him when he was
little LOL! That was with my ex, music nut supreme--my current BF had a friend
over playing cards--woohoo.)
I had no idea there was more to come than the Pete Best deal, and that's a
pretty big deal.
This will be an excellent week for me music/culturewise, and my VCR is
broken!
Perhaps there will be some way to get these docu's at a later date. For now
I'll just burn it all into my retinas! I know the Dylan DVD is out, but I want
to see the whole performances of things.
When he strutted out to the booing UK crowd and did a blistering version of
'Mr Jones' I was riveted, and the mood washed over me like a river.
And he was wearing my favourite shirt, too! ;-)
Wonderful show--can't wait for tonight.....and tomorrow.....and
tomorrow.....and tomorrow!!!
Thanks for the info--invaluable stuff! :-D

Part Two is on TUESDAY, not Wednesday.
Part One was excellent...current day interviews of Dylan and many of the
key
figures of 60s folk music, mixed with archival footage and sound from early
in Dylan's career, not only of Dylan, but also the rest of the folk scene.
Interspersed with scenes from the 1966 UK tour (some of this is from Don't
Look Back, some is footage not included in Don't Look Back). I believe
Part
Two starts with the infamous performance at Newport (Dylan goes electric).
Also this week on PBS:
Wednesday 9/28, a 1-hour show on the early Beatles, told through the eyes
of
Pete Best.
Wednesday 9/28, Get Up, Stand Up: Pop and Protest, a 2-hour documentary
hosted by Chuck D. of Public Enemy. I think Patti appears in this
show...there was a quick shot of her in the preview.
Thursday 9/29, The Sixties: The Years That Shaped a Generation. Themes are
war and peace, politics, popular culture and revolutions. Views from right
and left. The credits for writer/director/producers include Stephen
Talbot, a very fine progressive documentary filmmaker whose work appeared
for many years on Frontline. This could turn out to be a better than
average look at the 60s.
