It truly was a time of revolution. At my school, just silently, without
any fanfare, beginning to move from the cafeteria and snackbar for lunchtime,
out to underneath the oak trees along the front of the school, and also
towards the sports field, was a HUGE rebellion. Yet the school admin knew
that it was harmless, though some people smoked cigarettes then. Hey,
everything's relative. Girls had to wear either skirts, no shorter than an
inch above their knees, or coulottes, the same measurements.
I can't believe that these fights are having to be done AGAIN now.
Those dress codes are nothing but the authority showing that yes, they
have more power than kids, but it's counterproductive, IMO. Hey, I got my
hair styled every two weeks then, had my own hair dryer/fingernail thingie,
and would always be the one in my school who went furtherest outside and
caught the biggest waves after school. Go figure.
But after that bullshit about hair and clothes, Well I'd gotten that
coat-&-tie crap out of my system, and haven't done it since. That's uhhhh, a
long time ago.
And I bet that I've STILL caught the best and biggest waves, PLUS the
biggest waves anytime, of any surfers from my school. NYAHHHH to all those
damn shitkickers!

thanks for sharing this bob!
OMG, I lived in Houston when the Elevators were here!! Saw them a ton of
times, and ALWAYS knew that it was special, even in my 11th-grade. In my
senior year in high school I took a Sociology elective and the teacher let
us
bring records to listen to.
One week I brought "Easter Everywhere", and the first "Fever Tree"
album.
The lead player for Fever Tree was a class ahead of me in the same
school.
Spring Branch High School, Michael Knust. He was ALWAYS getting kicked
out of
school for long hair. Seeing that happen helped to militarize ME. And I
started wearing treads...cheap Mexican sandals with tire treads for
soles...along with my usual slacks, sport coat and tie or ascot. Hey, I
was a
real fashion plate then!!
Sandals were as much forbidden as Michael's long hair (meaning
past
his shirt collar!!...circa 1967! but so since I wore a sport coat and
phallic
cravat, I got away with it.
My favorite ever 13th Floor Elevator gig was at Love Street, when
they
played about 4 sets one night. Two each of their own, and two others,
backing
up Chicago harp player Little Walter.
Oh MAN!
Anyway, when I took "Easter Everywhere" to school, the teacher, she
played
it and she actually said THE classic thing about the Elevators: "What IS
that
funny sound?" (meaning the electric jug) :)
She finally got fired for deviating from the school's curriculum
too
much, caught on at a private school, and I'd run into her at the
University of
Houston listening room now and then. GAWD, after I drove her home, in
West
University, a couple of times, did I ever have the hots for her!

From the egg into the flower,
Alpha information sending
State within the heaven shower
From disciples the unending
Subtleties of river power
They slip inside this house as they pass by"
