Re: Floatation Tanks...John Lilly (NPC)

Bob, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Eli Lilly wasn't involved in the famous
'bikeride' episode, but I thought Hoffman was alone....I'll have to look it
up!

I still haven't found out if 'inversion' tanks was a typo or a different thing
altogether!!! ???

XO-Glenna, ever on the Quest for Clarification!!
(And thanks for the explanation of John Lilly--and thanks to Anthony for the
linkie! I'll be looking at that tomorrow AM when I have more time!)

  Glenna,

Lightfoot's just supplied his website's URL, but to sum up SOME of
his
accomplishments, he led research into dolphins and porpoises, for a LOT of
purposes and directions (George C. Scott played him in the
lightly-disguised
bio-pic, "Day of the Dolphin", with Trish Van DeVere playing his wife. The
story is only about one small part of their research, dealing with the US
military wanting to steal his research to make the "aquatic humans" into
weapons, and is pretty damn true to fact..

He also designed the floatation tank, sometimes called an isolation
tank. IT was dramatized in the movie, "Altered States", and writes
extensively about that in his book, "Center of the Cyclone", as well as the
newer (and unread so far by me), "Tanks for the Memories: Floatation Tank
  Talks (Consciousness Classics)"

I imagine the second recovers and adds to the former book, which
includes his experiments with his wife, Tim Leary and others about taking
the
floatation tanks to the limit (if you know what I mean ;) )

Anyway, Dr. Lilly and his wife led a LOT of modern research into
modern psychology in addition to the "water human" stuff. His stuff is
VERY
worth reading. I think that he passed away a few years ago, I'm not sure
  about her.

BTW, another researcher, more recent, and one I was friends with, is
Dr.
Pat St. John, who works with research into the uhhhh, lesser cetacions?
like
porpoises and dolphins, especially with kids with mental illness. Oh,
DAMMIT, I thought I still had a copy of her book here on my desk-hutch but
I
must have moved it sometime. Damn, I shouldn't EVER clean things up.
Anyway, she DID verify that male dolphins CAN be uhhh, sexual
assaulters on humans, especially women during estrus or menses. YIKES!

Oh, and wasn't Eli Lilly who Dr. Hoffman was working for in Switzerland in
the
early '50's when he was playing with ergot for a migraine cure and after
accidentally licking some of his new stuff off his fingers, took his famous
  bicycle ride home? <VBG>

    XO-Glenna
PS: AND, I'm not shy to say this either:
WHO is John Lilly? Any relation to Eli and his big drug company? (Proud
maker of Methadone, Prozac, and Valium! My, what a resume! ;-)
