I don't think, and never did think Ollie was cute.
How she got tangled up with him I'll never know!
Fred may not have been a 'looker', but he certainly was of like-mind and
spirit with Patti.
Nobody can replace him. But Ollie?!!!!

And I agree--Tony is easy on the eyes!

Perhaps its time for Patti to be alone for awhile and see how that goes. I
never thought I could do it--be without a man in my life, and I never have for
VERY long, but when I was I found those times to be some of the most creative
for some reason.
I suppose its because all I had was ME to please.
After my divorce I jumped into another relationship, and after that one went
sour (damn them English guitar player know-it-alls!--not that EVERY English
guit player is a know-it-all, but man--this one sure was! And BOY was I
starry-eyed!)
After THAT went sour I jumped into another relationship, this time with a
fella who has next to no real musical knowledge, which drives me NUTS, as you
all know--I've bitched and whined about it enough on this board!!

But..we've seen 5+yrs together, and loves the kids too (must be hard to get
together with a crazy woman whose kids have so many disorders but they're
gifted! Connundrum-city there, and I applaud him for sticking with us!)

Anyway, leave it to me to turn a post about Ollie into a post about
myself--oops!

I never could stand the guy. And I don't even know him. Seeing him live though
gave me the impression of just exactly the picture you painted with your words
there, JTC!!! For some reason I always wanted to yell "GROW UP!" "TAKE SOME
GUITAR LESSONS!" "GET A HAIRCUT!!!"

Yes, and what ABOUT folks like Andi Ostrowe--you offer a snippet of
interesting information there. I had no idea this was how Babel was written--I
see the latest copywrite is 78, isn't that when she fell? On or just before
the Easter tour?
My mind is fuzzy on that one.

I just know that that was the first tour I saw her--and got addicted! ("Hi, my
name is Glenna and I'm a Patti Smith addict..."!!) She didn't have a brace
then, so if she fell during the tour it wasn't before she hit Seattle. (No pun
intended!) She did some incredible backbends that couldn't have been done with
her injuries not turning into screaming sirens of ambulances competing with
her own after THAT show!

What IS the story on that fall, once and for all?
(She asked, rhymingly!) And the writing of Babel?
Anyone care to enlighten this poor West Coastie?!
(With all them wild Injuns flingin' arrows at us constantly out here in the
Wild West, its hard to get any news through, you know. Thanks once again to Al
Gore for inventing this here Inernet thang! ;-) )

And I'm glad someone else feels the same as I do about Mister Whatsizname...I
always wondered what in HELL she was doing with him.....maybe he had a
big..........bank account! ;-)

And Phil--maybe you liked Oliver--alot of people must have, I just never cared
for him nor understand the Patti/Ollie thing, and I'm sorry if she is sad over
the breakup, but I have a sneaking suspicion she is quite over him! I often
wondered if he had some kind of blackmail goin'...! Never did understand why a
beautiful spirit like Patti's could go for a seemingly mundane one like
Oliver's.
Again, I don't know him personally so its all specualtion on my part. All this
news about his background is--well--news to me!

I never liked him though, and I have heard reports of the shows w/o him being
very much freer, and Patti showing more of those big smiles she is so famous
for blessing us with!

I'm not a fanatic, I know--I know, "fan" is the derivative of "fanatic", but
in my case its a different thing. I'm not JUST a fan of Patti, I love the PSG
and to me, he never fit in. KInda like Mick Taylor and the Stones. When Ronnie
Wood stepped in, it was like the puzzle was finally together, could have a
backing put on it, and gone up on the wall!
Perhaps Mr Verlaine will become a permanent member and the same will be said
of the PSG. Too early to tell though, isn't it.

  out that Ollie rose to the top despite his no talent and underwear model cum
  beat poet sensitive pale blue eyes hooked into the Ann Arbor Ginsberg Annual
  Poetry Project probably cuz of his stockbroker/rich wall street type
  divorced (how broken he must be and so thin) dad who had connections where
  he had the good/bad fortune to meet patti...all I want to say is what about
  the Andi Ostrowe's of Patti's world, the person who sat and wrote down the
  words patti dictated from her hospital bed wherever that was, when she was
  recovering for months after she broke her neck in January 1976....???????
  Andi took down every word by hand that patti said and that was
  Babel....without Andi, no Babel.... What about those people????  The people
  at Gotham Book Mart that helped her sell her books, other book people that
  didn't rip her off like that first guy did.....Hanuman Books, yeah Ollie
  worked there I think, not due to his creative output tho.... what about
  Sadowsky musical instruments that the band used for a while.....did they
  help out the band???? what about the Bowery Ballroom setting aside New Years
  and two other days the first year or 2 not knowing who would show
  up.....Just so this isn't a stupid email check out cafepress.com, (or org),
  its a bunch of local/small businesses working out of one email address with
  great bumper stickers.   I just thought of one stupid one: Tony likes Ollie.
