There is a new website at http://stevensebring.com/ which includes a great
selection of sound clips, video clips and still images from Steven Sebring's
Patti Smith Documentary Film Project.

Sebring has been filming Patti for the past nine years. The website
describes the project as follows. "The Patti Smith Project is a full length
feature film. The documentary is a loosely structured road movie that
captures Patti's personal and professional arc since 1975. More of a musical
biographical poem than a bio-pic, the film traces Patti's inner life through
lyric images, interview segments and musical interludes ranging from
classics such as Gloria to the anthemic People Have the Power."

It is planned to premiere the film at Sundance and to show it on PBS.

Kind regards

Andrew

Very nice site.

If you have trouble watching the movie clips try disabling any pop-up

The New Years Eve show was a blast. They opened with Til Victory and then the list gets a bit blurry again but it included Privilege, Free Money, Beneath The Southern Cross, Ain't It Strange, Because the Night, Dancing Barefoot, Pissing in a River, Spell, Rock 'n' Roll Nigger, Blakean Year wiht a very cool little poem/song as the opener, Peaceable Kingdom, Have you Ever Been Experienced? (it was mind blowing in it's beauty) and since we're now in the year of the dog and there are 3 'dog" people in the band along with Jackson they did a Three Dog Night song (anyone remember the name? I've never been a big follower of theirs). Gloria at midnight.

She did a little more bantering with the audience, she said to kill some time because they were going thru their set list a little quicker than planned coz she didn't do any long winded speeches or something like that. She ripped on GW Bush a lot. As the lead in to Rock and Roll Nigger she read the Declaration of Independence and basically called for Bush to be removed from office for crimes against humanity. It was very powerful!

Hope you all have a Happy New Year, I had a blast last night. Hopefully someone will post a more accurate set list.

Keith

Elvis Costello was right, "Radio is a sound salvation!"

I got to listen to Patti from the Bowery Ballroom last night on Sirius and
it was incredible - sound, setlist and performance.

I'm waiting for Patti to venture back to the D.C. area to see her but NYE on
Sirius was a real treat, siriusly!. Patti and the band were in fine form. I'm
always amazed at how the songs are constantly tweaked so they always sound
just a little bit different. Patti's humor was in the house the whole night.
As much as I love the music, I truly enjoy the banter in between almost as
much.

The show started at 10:10 with Till Victory. I immediately wondered if they
would repeat the playing of Easter from start to finish but they didn't.
Appropriately, they played Privilege and "set me free!"

Spell was in memory of Allen Ginsberg.

Before My Blakean Year, Patti commented on 'radioland" and what it was like
growing up listening to the radio and what was learned through it. She ramped
into the song with a litany of topics including Vietnam, Ohio State, etc.
The guitar work on MBY was really cool. It sounded so crisp and clear.

Right after MBY, Patti, then proceeded to comment on Sirius paying Howard
Stern too much money and everyone should write into Sirius and tell them so.
Then, in typical fashion, she said, you'll know what happened if we're not on at
1am (with the show's repeat broadcast).

Are You Experienced? was simply ethereal & exquisite. A real gem. Jimi would
be proud.

Wing was for Jessie.

Love's Consolation - a new song they started, stopped and I though might
abandon but they didn't. Patti told the story of how she wrote it that day and
it only had 1 chord. I think it is a keeper.

After BTN, Patti goes into a bit about money and the rich and how people
don't get paid what they're worth, citing musicians and their plight and smartly
leads into Free Money.

After Free Money, Patti apologizes a little for the previous tirade, tongue i
n cheek, then proceeds to update the Lobster Palace tale from the night
before. She gets the crowd worked up and after the crowd buzz builds up, she says
something like "that's what I like, people getting aggravated!". She goes
into Pissing In A River.

In perhaps the funniest segment, Patti talks about 2006 being The Year of
The Dog and that she, Lenny and Jackson were all dogs, although born in
different years! Next, is a bit about Bob Dylan and a Christmas card. Patti then
talks about presents and how she hates fruit cakes. She said she didn't get one
this year but thought she did. She got this heavy package and didn't open it
for 3 days because she thought it was a fruit cake. When she did open it, she
found out it was a puppy! Patti, of course, immediately, shouts out, "I'm
kidding!" You can tell, she loved that she pulled off a good joke. She then
goes into Dog Dream with her Bob Dylan voice in certain places to a great
effect.

It's now 11:50 and they go into a beautiful version of Peaceable Kingdom.
Shortly before midnight, any musician's nightmare, they launch into Gloria and
stick in Auld Lang Syne.

Now, and showing Patti's dry wit comedy genius, she brings back the 3 dog
theme and since it is a 3 Dog Night, they do Mama Told Me (Not To Come). At
first, I thought, "ugh" but I love her offbeat covers and this was a delight.
Think about it. Think about the lyrics. Patti really dug into them and sang them
with a lot of flex so they really sounded neat. The band had it together so
this was really a neat addition.

Then in a strong finish, a great Not Fade Away followed by the Declaration
of Independence and an indictment of George Bush segued into Rock 'n Roll
Nigger.

Can't remember when but Patti commented several times through the night
about Katrina and New Orleans.

The show ended at 12:35 after they waited a few minutes to see if Patti and
the band would return but they were gone . . .

Hey, gang of friends I fwded this to!!

What better way to ring in the new year (besides perhaps a PSG show at the
BB!) than to reflect on some of the more idiotic human escapades of 2005?!
Some of you may have seen this, but as the Grand Prize winners were from
Washington State, of course I had to send it along!
Uh.....enjoy!

XOXO-Glenna

******************

The 2005 Darwin Awards
In case you have been waiting breathlessly for this year's Darwin Awards, here
they are. These awards are given annually to the remains, or estate of that
individual, who through single-minded self-sacrifice, has done the most to
remove undesirable elements from
the human gene pool. 5th RUNNER-UP: Goes to a San Angelo, California man who
died
when he hit a lift tower at the Mammoth Mountain ski area while riding down
the slope on a foam pad. 22-year old David Hubal was pronounced dead at
Central Mammoth Hospital. The accident occurred about 3 a.m., the Mono County
Sheriff's department said. Hubal and
his friends apparently had hiked up a ski run called Stump Alley and undid
some yellow foam protectors from lift towers, said Lt. Mike Donnelly of the
Mammoth Lakes Police Department. The pads are used to protect skiers who might
hit towers. The group apparently used the pads to slide down the ski slope and
Hubal crashed into a tower. It has since been investigated and determined the
tower he hit was the one with its pad removed.

4th RUNNER-UP: Goes to Robert Puelo, 32, was apparently being disorderly in a
St. Louis market. When the clerk threatened to call the police, Puelo grabbed
a hot dog, shoved it into his mouth and walked out without paying. Police
found him unconscious in front of the store. Paramedics removed the six-inch
wiener from his throat where it had choked him to death.

3rd RUNNER-UP: Goes to poacher Marino Malerba of Spain, who shot a stag
standing above him on an overhanging rock and was killed instantly when it
fell on him.

2nd RUNNER-UP: "Man loses face at party." A man at a West Virginia party
(probably related to the winner last year...remember him?--a man in Arkansas
who used a 22 cal. bullet to replace the fuse in his pickup truck) popped a
blasting cap into his mouth and bit
down, triggering an explosion that blew off his lips, teeth, and tongue. Jerry
Stromyer, 24, of Kincaid, bit the blasting cap as a prank during the party
late Tuesday night, said Cpl. M.D. Payne. "Another man had it in an aquarium
hooked to a battery and was trying to explode it. It wouldn't go off and this
guy said "I'll show you how to set it off." He put it into his mouth, bit down
and it blew all his teeth out and his lips and tongue off, Payne said.
Stromyer was listed in guarded condition Wednesday with extensive facial
injuries, according to a spokesperson at Charleston Area Medical Division. "I
just can't imagine anyone doing something like that," Payne said.

1st RUNNER-UP: Doctors at Portland University Hospital said an Oregon man shot
through the skull by a hunting arrow is lucky to be alive and will be released
soon from the hospital. Tony Roberts, 25, lost his right eye last weekend
during an initiation into a men's rafting club, Mountain Men Anonymous
(probably known now as Stupid Mountain Men Anonymous) in Grants Pass, Oregon.
A friend tried to shoot a beer can off his head, but the arrow entered
Robert's right eye. Doctors said that had the arrow gone 1 millimeter to the
left, a major blood vessel would have been cut and Roberts would have died
instantly. Neurosurgeon, Doctor Johnny Delashaw, at the University Hospital in
Portland said the arrow went through 8 to 10inches of brain with the tip
protruding at the rear of his skull, yet somehow managed to miss all major
blood vessels. Delashaw also said that had Roberts tried to pull the arrow out
on his own he surely would have killed himself. Roberts admitted afterwards
that he and his friends had been drinking that afternoon (geez--you think!!).
Said Roberts, "I feel so dumb about this." No charges have been filed, but the
Josephine County district attorney's office said the initiation stunt is under
investigation.

Now, THIS YEAR'S WINNER: (The late) John Pernicky and his friend, (the late)
Sal Hawkins, of the great state of Washington, decided to attend a local
Metallica concert at the George Washington amphitheater. Having no tickets
(but having had 18 beers between them), they thought it would be easy to "hop"
over the nine foot fence and sneak into the show. They pulled their pickup
truck over to the fence and the plan was for Mr. Pernicky, who was 100 pounds
heavier than Mr. Hawkins, to hop the fence and then assist his friend over.
Unfortunately for (the late) Mr. Pernicky, there was a 30-foot drop on the
other side of the fence. Having heaved himself over, he found himself crashing
through a tree. His fall was abruptly halted (and broken, along with his arm)
by a large branch that snagged him by his shorts. Dangling from the tree with
a broken arm, he looked down and saw some bushes below him. Possibly figuring
the bushes would break his fall, he removed his pocket knife and proceeded to
cut away his shorts to free himself from the tree. Finally free, Mr. Pernicky
crashed into holly bushes. The sharp leaves scratched his ENTIRE body and now,
without the protection of his shorts, a holly branch penetrated his rectum. To
make matters worse, upon landing his pocket knife penetrated his thigh.
Hawkins, seeing his friend in considerable pain and agony, threw him a rope
and tried to pull him to safety by tying the rope to the pickup truck and
slowly driving away. However, in his drunken haste, he put the truck into
reverse and crashed through the fence landing on his friend and killing him.
Police arrived to find the crashed pickup with its driver thrown 100 feet from
the truck and
dead at the scene from massive internal injuries. Upon moving the truck, they
found John under it half-naked, scratches on his body, a holly stick in his
rectum, a knife in his thigh, and his shorts dangling from a tree branch 25
feet in the air. Congratulations, gentlemen. You win. And some more idiots
have been removed from the gene pool!

This may sound silly, but you guys have come to expect silly stuff from me!
This time its in the form of a clueless question!

I have NO idea how to Torrent, what if any software I need to dl, how to
convert shn & flac files etc! If anyone wants to email me offlist and 'splain
this to me (and 'splain why I can't get on DIME even though I've tried a
million times, despite the above wonderings about the whole process!)
I'd really appreciate it!

SHN & FLAC may be lossless, but I'm clueless!!!

Thanks!

Randy Newman---what a prolific songwriter!
There are SO many songs he wrote that I don't know about until someone tells
me, including this one.

Thanks for the tidbit! I love Three Dog Night--always did.

For 32 years the Poetry Project at the Saint Marks Church has a poetry
marathon on New Years Day and Patti was there again. She usually reads a
poem but last night played a guitar (one chord used as rhythm) and sang
Gandhi Gandhi. Sang it as a poem-not sure how to explain that. It was
wonderful. As someone adjusted the mike for her guitar she said "that's
OK, it's only one chord." And it was! Lenny had earlier read a piece
about CBGB that was great as well. Jim Carroll read an amazing poem.
It's a fantastic event. I live across the street and was married there
so I usually attend. Allan Ginsberg once was entering the front door as
I was leaving but I was too astounded to say anything to him. Happy New
Year to you all.

Wonderful story, Harold--getting married at St. Mark's and being able to
return to that happy atmosphere for the PP events!

I'll bet living and going out in NYC it was bittersweet to hear Lenny read a
poem about CB's.
I probably would have cried. I can't imagine if an institution existed here in
Seattle like that, spawning so many great artists for literally decades, and
then.... We did have something like that but for a shorter time, the Central
Tavern. We held poetry slams on weekdays, jazz on Tuesdays, and on the
weekends it was home to Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and all the
other grunge bands that made our town Liverpool for a minute back there in the
90s until they became too popular to play bars. What times those were!
So many bands....so much beer! :\

Unfortunately it switched hands and became another singles' bar in 1990.
Luckilly I had been on the scene long before the Central changed hands in the
80s. The core group of music nuts who hung there for the atmosphere (lots of
punkers invaded and persuaded the new owner when he bought it in around 1983
to start booking what has come to be called 'alternative' bands, and
rockabilly too. We had ALOT of fun! We lived there, practically! There was a
loft in the place that we spent many an after-hours in, and my ex was the cook
for a few years. I was fortunate to see the "famous" Nirvana show where only
12 people came in the mid-80s, (ha!) and SO many other shows. It was very hard
to let go of that place. I can't fathom the institution that CBs was having to
move or whatever Hillie ends up doing with it. I'd love to have heard Lenny's
poem.

All that aside, I have a Question: What was the 'one chord'?!

XO-Glenna (ever the stickler!)
Happy New Year to you too, let's hope 06 will be better than rotten old 05!!

  Subject: New Years day

  Harold Appel

Oh I know, I've already gotten the spanking for that! Anyway, sorry to have
circulated falsehood but hey--that's what I get for not cking with Snopes
first--first mistake I EVER made!
Surely you can forgive me just ONE mistake in my entire life?! ;-)

Actually, there IS a fence at the Gorge, there IS a drop, and there WAS a
Metallica show there. So, it seemed plausible. But--fooled again! And Pete
Townshend said that wouldn't happen! ;-)

Ah yes, the Darwin Awards again. Amusing stories, but they're generally
just that -- stories.

    Snopes discusses previous Darwin Awards:

Hey - I successfully nabbed the 12/30 BB show from
DaD sometime overnight, and since I realize that not
everyone is suited for/comfortable with running P2P
software clients... here's an offer for the fogeys
among us: I'm going to offer the show up to Babelistas
the old-fashioned way - on a white-sleeve, triple-LP
vinyl set with a colored-paper insert. (jokes!!)

Seriously -- this is a weed announcement. The first
five folks who write me with a snail-mail address
AND .... (NB!) who pledge to turn around and offer
to burn several copies for perfect strangers publicly
just like I am doing now, are eligible.

Typical practice on weeds is for folks to set aside a
number of burns for burnerless folks, once the initial
frenzy has settled down, but since this is the first
offer I see, I'm going to restrict it to folks who can
re-offer copies.

(Of course, torrenting has redefined "weed frenzy",
as a hundred or so people seemed to have grabbed the
show the first night it was offered....Chances are
that any demand for burned discs in snail-mail will
be met quickly. It seems that trees and weeds are
somewhat passe now....[sigh])

I've got my quota for 12/30/05 and some to grow on.

So my personal weed offer is closed, but I'm sure that
others will be making copies availble very very soon,
if not sooner.

Mon Jan 2, 3:39 AMUPDATED 1 DAY 8 HOURS 35 MINUTES AGO

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Police aren't sure how else to explain it. But when an
officer walked into an apartment Thursday night to answer a 911 call, an
orange-and-tan striped cat was lying by a telephone on the living room floor.
The cat's owner, Gary Rosheisen, was on the ground near his bed having fallen
out of his wheelchair.

Rosheisen said his cat, Tommy, must have hit the right buttons to call 911.

"I know it sounds kind of weird," Officer Patrick Daugherty said,
unsuccessfully searching for some other explanation.

Rosheisen said he couldn't get up because of pain from osteoporosis and
ministrokes that disrupt his balance. He also wasn't wearing his medical-alert
necklace and couldn't reach a cord above his pillow that alerts paramedics
that he needs help.

Daugherty said police received a 911 call from Rosheisen's apartment, but
there was no one on the phone. Police called back to make sure everything was
OK, and when no one answered, they decided to check things out.

That's when Daugherty found Tommy next to the phone.

Rosheisen got the cat three years ago to help lower his blood pressure. He
tried to train him to call 911, unsure if the training ever stuck.

The phone in the living room is always on the floor, and there are 12 small
buttons _ including a speed dial for 911 right above the button for the
speaker phone.

"He's my hero," Rosheisen said.

Hi everybody and happy new year.
I uploaded here:

http://beta.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=EB2393BCF8CA9793

3 short movies in rm format of Patti Smith at the Gran Rex in Paris.

It's a rar file (pc users can use winzip or winrar, mac users should be
able
to open it with stuffit) of about 55mb.
The file is available for 25 downloads.
Should there be more people interested I'm sure any of those who downloaded
it will re-upload it to www.yousendit.com

 Enjoy it

 Ge

PS - this is not the actual concert (that is being shared on dimeadozen).
These are "outtakes" and interviews that are/were available on the Arte
 website

Was anyone able to get this off of Pirate Bay? I have tried but have not been
able to make a connection. I actually captured this from the webcast but have
a couple of dropouts so I am looking for a better copy. I have lots to trade.
Our list is at http://members.aol.com/rcalato/tapesindex.html

Thanks,
Rhonda

With one exception, all of the 12/30 weeds I promised
were dropped off at the post office today. That's 7
Americans and a Canadian - pretty good coverage - so
look for more weed announcements shortly.

There is one European weed, too. Hopefully I will
be able to ship this out tomorrow.

Thanks to Tony! I am able to offer to propogate this weed for the
12/30/05 BB show:

I will take the first 4 requests who respond privately to me with
their regular mailing address and a pledge to make copies to continue
the weed. (I will bust you to the lists if you don't follow through
btw.)

I will also take 1 request from someone who really can't make copies
(BE HONEST PLZ).

I will also accept offers to trade - helps me out and you'll only have
limited copying to do. This option will take longer. I will need your
trade list, sort through them, and get you mine, etc.

unfolding peace,
Dennis

Well, that sucks.

I picked up their (pre-Jackson) CD at the BB shows in 2004
and it was really good. I hadn't gone and bought a CD
based on an opening act in years, but they were impressive,
energetic, smart and all the other things a young hot
rock band should be. As JS sez:

Weed is closed. I may take a few more than the four. I will be in
touch. If not, then look for the next offer.

I will take trade offers for a few days and then get back to those
people after the weekend.

Tom Verlaine will play and talk on WFMU tomorrow during Gaylord's show
with is on from 5-7 pm. I'm not sure when Verlaine will be on, but
guests are usually on from 30 minutes to an hour, although that can
vary. If you don't get the station, you can listen on the internet at
wfmu.org or listen on the archives later. The mp3 will only be up for 2
weeks, the real media copy will be up indefinitely.(The archives are put
up within a few hours, I'm the person who puts them up in the evening
and on weekends, so it's as soon asI can get to it after the computers
finish uploading them about a half an hour after the show.)

If you write me privately I can tell you how to download the show if you
want to keep it. Again, there's only 2 weeks for the mp3 before the
computer dumps it.

Hey, happy New Years guys. Moved to California 4 years ago so I only made
the Bowery New Year show last year, not this year.

I am slimming down (ok, getting rid of) my vinyl collection and also some
CDs and would like to sell a few albums separated into three lots,

Best offer received by January 15 followed by sending me a money order or
cashier's check only. I think I priced them too high on ebay so they didn't
sell, will take the highest offer from babelistas. U.S. addresses only.

The albums are all in very good to excellent condition, the picture disk is
in mint condition and has never been played. If you would like the track
lists for these, they are available online. Just e-mail me at
jimmyfresno and let me know which lot you are interested in and
your best offer.

1.	Rare Patti Smith Group Picture Disk, "Easter," Picture from Easter
embedded in the vinyl, same track list as Easter album.

Add $4 shipping insurance included. Be generous in your offer for this one,
it's a really nice rare piece and I've held onto it and stored it safely
since like 1979.

2.	Marianne Faithfull 7 LP set (one double LP included so 8 LPs total).
Some have a few small scuffs on jackets but all are in very good condition.
Shipping $8 for all, including insurance

1.	Italian import on Super Star label with Italian liner notes
centerfold in color
2.	Marianne Faithful, London PS 423 including "As Tears go By, Come
Stay With Me"
3.	British impot "Dreamin' my Dreams"
4.	Faithfull Forever
5.	Best of Marianne Faithfull
6.	Go Away from my world
7.	Rich Kid Blues (2 LPs)

3.	7 CDs (this is one lot sold together only) $6 shipping including
insurance, sent in jewel cases with art, not sent in CD sleeves.

1.	Patti Smith Waterfestival ("LIVE" CD from Stockholm Waterfestival.
This is an awesome concert; her voice gets really gravelly and deep and
tremendous)
2.	The Great Marianne Faithful
3.	Marianne Faithfull Rich Kid Blues
4.	UK Import "Dreamin My Dreams"
5.	CD Single UK Import, "Hang on to your heart"
6.	"This little Bird" on Spectrum Label

     4. NICO Orange Vinyl (Clear) "LIVE" album PERF 385 with "the invisible
girls" and "the blue orchids" Very rare, goldish orange transparent disk.
Bootleg "Heroes, Femme Fatale, All tomorrow's parties, the end" $4
shipping with insurance included.

If they are unsold after January 15 I will consider individual sales.

Hi Listers,

The missing track from the Sirius broadcast is being seeded here:

http://thepiratebay.org/details.php?id=3429506

It should replace D1TRK13 on the original torrent. It goes between 25th Floor
and Strange Messengers. Don't confuse this one with the audience recording
being seeded at DIME. This applies to the original posting of the broadcast
version.

Phil

I'm sure glad I don't have a dog--and if I did, I wouldn't ignore a recall!
How can folks ignore warnings? Hmm.....thanks for the site--its a very
interesting one, all round!

I got the 12/30/05 show at the Bowery Ballroom over the weekend from
Tony so I'm willing to do what Dennis Moore did and take the first 4
requests who respond privately to me with their regular mailing address
and a pledge to make copies to continue the weed.

I will also take 1 request from someone who really can't make copies (BE
HONEST PLZ).

I will also accept offers to trade - helps me out and you'll only have
limited copying to do. This option will take longer. I will need your
trade list, sort through them, and get you mine, etc.

I'm just listening to the streaming version of this show. It's really fun.
Not what I expected at all. It's not Tom playing (at least so far) but
being deejay and bringing in his favorite records. And the records aren't
rock, they're more like schmaltzy easy listening things. But they're really
good (mostly) and a lot of fun to listen to.
