RE: A little Hey, Joe history & now Gloria

Well J, I'll let you in on a little secret. OK, it's not a secret. You can
read all about it on the internet [google my name, 'Stretch Riedle'], you
can read all about it at <www.louielouie.net>, and pages 182-186 in Dave
Marsh's book "Louie Louie" are about me. I even co-wrote the Discography in
the book.
I was one of the main reasons that you heard Louie Louie all weekend back in
1983 in the San Francisco Bay area.
In fact, it all started because I played about 15 versions of "Hey Joe" in
the middle of the night on the radio back in 1981 on that same radio staion.
I was trying to find a creative way of doing my 4-hour time slot between
2:00am and 6:00am. The rest is documented history in a way.

In my experience and research, Louie Louie has been played, and recorded,
more than any other rock song, including Hey Joe. Not every version has been
recorded, of course. And if you check the internet, you'll find that the
Beatles song "Yesterday" has been recorded more than any other song,
including Louie Louie. However, I don't consider the tune Yesterday to be a
rock song in the same category as Hey Joe, Louie Louie, or Gloria.
Historically speaking, that is.

I currently have between 1200 and 1500 versions of the song "Louie Louie" in
my collection. I'm still looking for more.
I still need EVERY performance that Patti Smith did when they used to do
"Pale Blue Eyes/Louie Louie". I only have about 4 of them so far.

Me gotta go now,
Jeff 'Stretch' Riedle
