Patti Smith as Shakespeare

Sheila Callaghan's play _Dead  city_

"produced by New Georges and running
    through June 30 at 3LD Art & Technology
    Center at 80 Greenwich Street, in Lower
    Manhattan, roughly follows the outline of
    James Joyce's 1922  chestnut 'Ulysses.'

    "New York stands in for Dublin; Samantha
    Blossom, a  middle-aged freelance consultant,
    stands in for Leopold Bloom; Jewel Jupiter,
    a self-destructive  poet, for Stephen Dedalus;
    and the singer Patti Smith, as the object of
    Jupiter's  absorption, for Shakespeare."

-- Campbell Robertson "A June 16 in the city: Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes",
The New York times, 16 June 2006, page E1.
