Per a couple of requests Patti Smith performed a very short set at Lollapalooza today. It was just her and an acoustic guitar. She wore her trademark black jacket and had some kind of hair clip near the top of her head. Patti mentioned she was born in Chicago in 1946, that her dad's name was Grant and that he told her Grant Park was named after him. hahaha And then looked up to the heavens and told her dad she was playing in Grant Park.
She started with Grateful (forgot the cords and had 3 false starts....haha), then dedicated Wing, which she wrote for her daughter, to Arthur Lee of Love fame who had recently passed away. Next she said she just wrote a song yesterday about the bombing of civilians in Lebanon and the death of 27 children. Actually it kind of sounded a bit like the beginning of In My Blakean Year. She ranted a bit against Israel and how the USA could help stop the bombings and how would it feel if 27 of the children at the show were taken from us? The song was great. Then she was finished. It was great but way too short. I took a few pictures but forgot the cord to transfer the photos from my camera to my laptop/powerbook. I took one with my phone which I've attached (not sure if it'll come through or not...we'll see...otherwise here's a link. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i88/sidboy69/PattiLolla.jpg . The camera ones are actually a lot better and closer.. :)
