Palmer isn't the only guest star on Fresh Off Boat. Phish bassist Mike
Gordon and guitarist Lenny Kaye (known for work with Patti Smith) join
the band for the swaggering "Golem Hora." At more than six minutes, it
allows time for Gordon and Kaye to improvise a bit on both ends of the
rowdy "Hava Nagila" chorus that is the song's centerpiece.

NUMBER THE DEAD VIGIL & DEMONSTRATION NYC 9.17.06

On Sunday September 17th there will be 2700 concerned persons lining
the east sidewalk of 5th Avenue from 8th Street to 98th Street in NYC.
The number corresponds to the number of US soldiers that have died in
Iraq.

Each person will hold a poster board with the name, age and hometown
of every fallen US soldier. In addition, each block will have a poster
marking the number of Iraqis who have been killed. Each block will
represent 1000 Iraqis. From 10-11a.m. we will stand together in a
silent vigil and demonstration, called NUMBER THE DEAD. For more
information, please visit our website: www.numberthedead.com

IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE
If you want to be part of the line on September 17th, you MUST send us
an e-mail at:

numberthedead

You must sign up to line up! We need a count to make sure that we
have enough volunteers to represent the 2700 soldiers. In your email,
please provide a contact number. Once you have signed up, you will
receive more details about the event.

Please support the cause of remembering and honoring the US soldiers
and Iraqis whom we have lost in this war. This project will only be
successful if we have every soldier represented. It's time we take a
stand and illustrate what the number 2600+ looks like alive.

Hope to see you on the line.

Hey the above link should take you to the amazon.com page for the "new" book about Patti that's going to be released on October 24. Patti Smith: American Artist by Frank Stefanko and a foward by Lenny. It's been listed on their site but this is the first time I've seen what the cover is going to look like. It looks like they're also going to be selling that cd of Patti reading poetry too that someone mentioned a while ago that was only available on the amazon.co.uk site.

All-star Tribute Pays Homage to Dylan, Benefits Music For Youth

Patti Smith, Phil Lesh, Cat Power, and Seal are just a few of the
dozen artists slated to pay tribute to Bob Dylan at a benefit concert
at NYC's Avery Fisher Hall this November. A benefit event for the
Music For Youth foundation, the Dylan tribute follows on the heels of
MYF's 2005 homage to Joni Mitchell, which raised $130,000 to further
the organization's efforts to orchestrate the collaboration of music
industry executives and educators to bring music education to at-risk
youth.

Indicating the extreme breadth and depth of Dylan's musical influence
over the past 40 years, performers range from the avant-garde pianist
Philip Glass to recent indie favorites Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.
"There are so many talented songwriters Dylan's contemporaries and
younger who are inspired by his genius," noted event producer Michael
Dorf, who also produced the Mitchell concert last year. "We could have
booked a full week of shows."

The concert will be held November 9th, 2006, at 8:00 PM at the Avery
Fisher Hall at the Lincoln Center in New York City. While most of the
concert-only tickets have been snatched up already, tickets that
include admittance to a pre-show VIP reception are still available for
$350, $500, and $1,000. Further information about the event and Music
For Youth's mission is available at http://www.musicforyouth.org.

This evening was the opening and a private view for the exhibition
"Robert Mapplethorpe: Still Moving & Lady" at the Alison Jacques
Gallery in London. The exhibition is open to the public from tomorrow
until 7 October 2006.

Although the gallery is quite small they have packed in a great many
photographs - those of Patti occupy the ground floor and staircases,
whilst Lisa Lyon is featured on the first floor. There is a viewing
room at the back of the gallery for a projection of the film "Still
Moving", and the film "Lady" is shown on video on the first floor.
Whilst there are many familiar images featured here I was pleasantly
surprised to see some photos of Patti from the mid 70s that I'd not
come across before. The gallery has not published a catalogue, though
they have printed a pair of posters, approx 11"x17", one advertising
the exhibition and one for the event at the Tate Modern.

Patti attended the private view this evening and was on excellent
form, chatting to people and posing a bit for the paparazzi (who
stayed on the doorstep all evening). She wore her cutomary white
shirt/black jacket stage costume. It was rather a crush in the
gallery, so there was no chance for her to do a reading or any sort of
performance.

I'd not seen "Still Moving" before, and was pleased to do so at last.
the title refers to the justaposition of some of Mapplethorpe's photos
of Patti with film of her posing for them (ie still/moving). These
include the photo that was used for the cover of the "Land"
compilation recently. The film had a soundtrack added afterwards by
Patti. It comprises various spoken improvisations, edited rather
loosely to the images, some guitar sound, and fragments from poems
including Babelfield, Combe and Pinwheels.

Kind regards

Andrew

Patti has added a new section to her site called "coffee break"... here is
the first installment: http://pattismith.net/coffeebreak.html

There is also a nice souvenance by Lenny Kaye about Russ Columbo, the
subject of his book "You Call It Madness," that includes a downloadable
audio track of Lenny singing Columbo's signature tune.

Ira Barouch, owner of Rocks in Your Head, on Monday holding Bob
Dylans Self-Portrait album two days before the record shops last
day in Soho. Below, the decidedly unchic exterior of the Prince St.
store.

Punk record store no longer played in a changed Soho

By Lincoln Anderson

When Rocks in Your Head opened on Prince St. in 1978, it had only been
a few years since artists had colonized the airy lofts in the formerly
desolate manufacturing neighborhood. New York Citys punk and new wave
music scene was flourishing, and Rocks in Your Head sold The Clash,
Buzzcocks and Siouxsie and the Banshees albums before these bands even
had American distributors.

But with Sohos storefronts long since transformed from art galleries
to high-end designer boutiques and teeth-whitening salons, the record
stores days were numbered. A sign of the inevitable, a postcard shop
dating from 1970 that was Rocks in Your Heads neighbor closed its
doors a few months ago, replaced by yet another accessories store.

Ira Barouch, Rocks in Your Heads owner, will close the store on
Wednesday, and plans to relocate to 133 Roebling St. in Williamsburg.

Ive been losing money for the last few years, and the rents being
what they are, business hasnt been good, Barouch said on Monday. The
name of retail is location, location, and when the locations not any
good, thats why were moving.

Ive been complaining about Soho for 20 years, he said. This used to
be an interesting neighborhood. When I first opened, I could stand on
the street and at least half the people walking by were potential
customers and interested in music. Now, its much less. Hopefully,
Williamsburgs a cooler neighborhood.

The stores rent is currently $5,000 a month, up from $300 a month in
1978.

Barouch said the store from the start concentrated on punk, new wave
and no wave, not because he was particularly interested in it, but
because that was the zeitgeist of the rock scene at the time.

Over the years, the place has been a hangout for musicians, producers
and others in the music scene. Lydia Lunch used to frequent the store.
More recently, Vito Roccoforte, the drummer of post-punkers The
Rapture, worked there.

He got too big with The Rapture. He couldnt work here anymore,
Barouch noted.

Brad Hargette, of the band Crystal Stilts, working the cash register on
Sunday, said the profit margin of the trendy boutiques far outstrips
what Rocks in Your Head could make.

We might make $5 on a CD, he said. Theyre selling $400 purses. Its
nothing but womens shopping now, he said of Soho.

Said Barouch, When people found out we were moving, they said, Oh no,
youre one of the last ones. Youre like the dinosaur.

Well I checked out pollstar.com, Patti's site and CBGB's site and couldn't find out anything when she's scheduled to play CB's but it was sometime in October from what I remember. But at the CB's site I did see that Flipper's going to play and then later in the week.....The Dead Kennedys. I didn't even know either band was still playing together or does anyone know if this just might be a one off performance? Wishin' I was in NYC for some of these shows.

Patti Smith, RANA, Lee "Scratch" Perry and Fishbone Confirm Final CBGB
Appearances

2006-08-28 16:06:30

After hosting live music for over 30 years, CBGB will shut its doors
this fall. While the veteran New York rock club has not finalized its
exact schedule, a number of the club's most famous alumni have confirmed
final performances at the Bowery venue. Punk/poetry icon Patti Smith-one
of the first CBGB performers to attract national attention in the
1970s-will play the club's final show in early October, though an exact
date and on-sale information have not been announced. Later this fall,
CBGB will likely relocate to Las Vegas, an odd end for one of the live
music scene s most forward-thinking independent rooms. New York-based
promoters Rocks Off, who have promoted numerous shows at the club over
the past five years, will curate CBGB s final run. The Rocks Off staff
has helped close down a number of New York venues, including Wetlands in
2001 and Tribeca in 2005. Bands confirmed for CBGB's final stretch of
shows include the Angry Samoans (9/9), RANA (9/13), Pete Yorn (9/14),
the Dead Kennedys (9/21), Agent Orange (9/23), Lee "Scratch" Perry
(9/25) and Fishbone/Dub Trio (9/28). CBGB will also close out its
Downstairs Lounge with an over twelve-hour festival beginning at 2:30PM
September 30, featuring a number of underground artists.

That's a great site--the only place you can find the so-horrid-it's
entertaining The Cool Ones, and a lot of other groovy movies.

was just thinking of getting a copy of Privilege myself!

When I get a chance I'll write some notes about Patti's performance at
the Tate Modern on Friday, 8 September 2006. It was an absolute gem,
with a couple of new pieces. Setlist is:

To the Reader (from The Coral Sea)
Beneath the Southern Cross
Grateful
Sword of God (new poem)
Seasons (new song)
I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry
The Joker is Wild (from Complete)
Wild Leaves (spoken)
Qana (new song)
Wing
Paths That Cross (spoken)
Kimberly (one verse accappela)
My Blakean Year
(encore)
Memorial Song (accappela)

Kind regards

Andrew

Thanks for the full set list. You did a better job than me keeping track.
But I did get a *few* photos (eek).

I saw The Dead Kennedys in Austria before the summer, so I guess they're
still playing.

Betreff: Patti at CBGB's....

Well I checked out pollstar.com, Patti's site and CBGB's site and couldn't
find out anything when she's scheduled to play CB's but it was sometime in
October from what I remember. But at the CB's site I did see that
Flipper's going to play and then later in the week.....The Dead Kennedys.
I didn't even know either band was still playing together or does anyone
know if this just might be a one off performance? Wishin' I was in NYC
for some of these shows.

Keith

I have a copy of the song (not the movie) Privilege on tape somewhere. What's
amazing is that Patti had the imagination to take such a bad song (original
version) and make it so great.

That's a great site--the only place you can find the so-horrid-it's
entertaining The Cool Ones, and a lot of other groovy movies.

was just thinking of getting a copy of Privilege myself!

The mention of Privilege, and also Bob Dylan's new album, made me think of
song covers and Patti's rumored album. It was more than a year ago that she
and the guys were said to be in the studio making a covers album.

Bob's new album isn't really that good IMHO, but I LOVE his cover of the old
Muddy Waters blues song Rollin and Tumblin. Bob takes the chorus and the
melody from that song, but writes 100% new words in all the middle verses.
The result is incredibly great. That would be a great approach for Patti to
take on some old songs.

Anybody know recent info about the covers album?

Mitch

Li,
I'd be careful; remember how Patti went off on Bono
when he was describing her as a goddess & other such
language ;)

thanks, that is exactly what i wanted. it's amazing how she just fit
right in and made it her own but keeping so much of the original - the
haunting keyboards and desperateness adding the psalm and making it
explode. i find myself playing them back to back.

i still want to get the movie but at $29.99 i can wait a little longer.

i am happiest when i have left a patti show and she has played this
song and pissing in the river. i feel cheated if she doesn't play
them.

Thanks for thle DL link, Ge. It ain't bad, it kind of sounds like a
lounge singer at a club on the fringes of where the heads went for music. You
can tell how all it needed was some gentle caressing by Patti & the boys :)

I have only ever watched Patti in performance online ...and I have her CDs
for Trampin' and Horses ...but this poem captures the essence of this
uniquely charismatic , bohemian performer, just beautifully.

Patti is entirely an original... for me ...absolutely enjoy listening to
her unusual singing voice ...and she is now sixty years old and standing
up for what she believes is right , absolutely fearlessly ...what a woman
!

What red-blooded female would not identify with the lines Seena just
selected ...plus the NO FEAR sentiment that comes across so strongly in her
singing of the Declaration of Independence [ DOI } ...today is the
anniversary of 9/11 ...poignant memory for all of us ...I stayed glued to my
television that morning after a friend called me to to wake me to turn on
my TV .Incredulously , I watched all day as the footage was repeated over
and over again of the two flaming towers imploding and people fleeing in
panic , covered in dust and the descending debris. Two sadly significant
memories for this Canadian in relationship to the great USA . The other
memory dates from 1963 .

I wept that weekend away...I remember it as a weekend at this moment in time
.... but , I was running a floor polisher buffing hardwood floors in our
dining room when the radio announcer said that the president had been shot
. I continued , thinking "Oh they will fix him up with the best of
doctors available" but. , the solemn voice came at me over the whir of the
machine ....the deathknell in the next announcement ......"the president
WAS so many years old................!!!!!" Chills of disvelief ran doen
my spine . I left the floor polisher standuing in place , rushed to the
living room , and turned on the TV to see Walter Cronkite doing his
darndest to fight back tears as he solemnly conveyed the tragic news to
all of us .. My husband looked after all the kids that weekend... I was a
complete basketcase wreck as I watched the state funeral unfold with
Jackie in veiled grief with Caroline and Jon-Jon alongside ...the black
riderless horse prancing in the mourning parade behind the US flagged
casket in the oen for all to see . We had five teenage foster sons ,and a
one year old daughter, and I was newly aware that I was on the way to
having my first son ...many reasons to be completely , sentimentally ,
emotionally functioning in woman mode . I adored JFK ...still do not care
how many chicks tucked their slippers under his couch ...he was magical
with his quirky wit , his totally male aura as he squired his beautiful
wife through state functions. Yes! ...Camelot most certainly existed while
John and Jackie lived at the Whitehouse ! His TV press conferences just
allowed journalists to drill him and he always managed to reduce each
conference to laughter at least once ...so fast on the draw that he was
always one step ahead in anticipating the snares meant to trip him up in
the questions being fired at him in quick succession because those
sessions had a time limit on them ..Everybody knows precisely where they
were when they first heard the devastating news of 9/11 ...and , similarly,
on that fateful day in Novebmer 22, 1963 ,the day of the demise of a
wonderfully alive young man ,as flawed as any other human being, but oh
so very human ; the youngest and first RC leader of the USA ..... now
43 years ago ...like yesterday in my mind , because the memory of his
assassination was so painful at that time .

We feel for all those who lost loved ones five years ago, today . Ground
Zero should be preserved as a memorial to that day , in perpetuity . That
painful memory will never be forgotten for all of us who care about this
world . Will we ever find a way to live in peace ,globally?

Of course the Bobster's new lines are good, he's been throwing in stuff for
years, when he'd feel like it or when he'd forget the "official" lines.
That's one thing that's made him the best vocalist in my lifetime. The way he
can change the meaning of a whole song by changing just one stressed sylablle
or dipthong is amazing.

...anyway, those old blues songs, in the folkie tradition, just beg to be
changed by whoever's singing.

As Robert Hunter has said about "misheard lyrics", "Hey, the way anyone
hears my lyrics is every bit as valid as the words that I meant"

For more Mondegreens, a fun site is:

http://www.physics.ohio-state.edu/~wilkins/writing/Resources/essays/mondegree
ns.html

(I still say the lyrics to the "The Wheel" is "If the joker don't get you
then the blind man will") :)

  Subject: song covers

The mention of Privilege, and also Bob Dylan's new album, made me think of
song covers and Patti's rumored album. It was more than a year ago that
she
and the guys were said to be in the studio making a covers album.

Bob's new album isn't really that good IMHO, but I LOVE his cover of the
old
Muddy Waters blues song Rollin and Tumblin. Bob takes the chorus and the
melody from that song, but writes 100% new words in all the middle verses.
The result is incredibly great. That would be a great approach for Patti
to
  take on some old songs.

Anybody know recent info about the covers album?

Patti's 6/5/04 show is at

It a great-sounding SBD/AUD Matrix mix by the unsurpassed AJ. Assuming
it doesn't show up someplace like eBay I'll share more.

twin death

9.11

awoke to the sound of a passenger plane singing its
end. awoke to the
sensation of spirits - a purgatory of souls ascending
the billowing smoke
and ash filling the sky at the base of my street.

they are gone. the twin posts that anchored our city.
an hour before
i waved goodbye to my daughter heading for school. i
sat on my stoop
gazing at them sleepily, disinterested, then returned
to my slumber,
in the arms of my love.

9.12

awoke to the sound of f-15's and helicopters circling
above, drawing
me from bed into the street. the towers are gone and
the skin of our sky
is wounded.

they are gone. what form of intelligence has committed
this deed?
what portrait could i paint? what lines might i draw?
from what human
memory can i draw from? i can no longer picture them.
on my wall are
sheets of drawings, abstracting the cross and the
motion of resurrection.
i remove them and set them away, taping up fresh
sheets, returning to the
street to think.

yellow streamers snake through the streets, wrapping
my ankles. as i reach
to free myself, i notice the light if different. they
way it falls on
the buildings
and on the back of my hand. momentarily inspired, i
pocket some streamers
and head back.

taping the yellow strip across the white sheets of
paper, i find i am unable
to draw one line. it should be so simple, child's play
to trace their dual
silhouette. but i can't. i'm afraid that i won't do it
right. i'm afraid that
art is useless.

they are gone. and all those people. i keep sitting on
my stoop looking
towards the right, to where they were, thinking they
will reappear. a dazed
businessman impeccably dressed, save for the white
dust covering his shoes,
passes. he doesn't seem to know where he is going,
but his shoes tell where
he has been. i think of picasso and how he reacted to
the bombing of
guernica. how he translated his pain and horror into a
monumental work
that moves and teaches us to this day. i return to my
wall.

if you look at the dust, one can see towers where
there are no towers. like
the amputee feeling the pain of phantom limbs.

i never really liked them. i protested their
construction. i was empire loyal,
resenting anything that might eclipse her. but through
the years, i not
only accepted, but also came to love them. it seemed
wonderful because
there were two.

9.13

awoke to the cries of "usa! usa!" nationalism is
brewing. flags are flying.
the sight of them fills me with conflict, for ours is
a global concern. we are
on human time. we are new york. a thoroughly human
city. diversity is our
pride. humanity is our duty - to offer one's hand,
one's bread, one's prayer,
and one's human love, with no distinction of faith,
party, or nationality.

dawn has yet to break and i awoke to sirens and
thunder and the rain
against the skylight. volunteers' voices carry through
the stage set of our
streets. driven to be among them, i rise, dress
quickly, gather up my
required identification and enter into another world.

lines of emergency vehicles are exiting, moving south.
irrationally attached
to our checkpoint, now unmanned, i touch the discarded
barricade,
draped in rain-soaked steamers. the same yellow
streamers that stretch
across the white sheets adorning my wall. a face mask
hangs on the edge
of a long sawhorse that has restricted our street. the
still life of the hour.
lights cease flashing. the rain dissipates. houston
street re-opens. the
citizens reclaim sixth avenue.

only blocks away, workers mobilize, rescuers continue
through the night.
men cry out not to other men. i know nothing of the
pain of their labors, what
their eyes have seen, what their hands have clawed
through. jean genet
would have known how to glorify those callused hands.
i cannot even
offer to shake them. i feel conspicuously invisible,
dressed so poorly in the
pre-dawn of national mourning. when the sun rises i
shall dress in white,
with respect for the ash veiling our city. the ash of
our cremated towers.

9.14 a day of national mourning

it is a morning for mourning. we, the people of the
city, awaken to the rain.
the god of abraham is weeping. allah is weeping. the
feet of jesus, and
mohammed are wet with tears and the people bow and
grasp the damp earth.

a day of mourning, and for what shall we mourn? the
humanity and the
humanity invested in its architecture? the fate of the
innocent afghan
peoples? shall we mourn our inability as a people to
communicate?

we are still the children of babel. speaking in
divided tongues, unable to
comprehend one another. the cries amongst the rubble
of that
colossal wreck are our own. babel's tower possessed
the collective
imagination of man. but they unlawfully penetrated the
dreams of god.
their ability to communicate was confounded to punish
them for a
lack of humility. perhaps when we humble ourselves as
a people, will
we communicate again.

9.15

once, in another century, i penned with arrogance, "i
am an american
artist, and i have no guilt." now i feel compelled to
utter, "i am an
american artist, and i feel guilty about everything."
in spite of this i will
not turn away: i will keep working. this i perceive as
duty. as i pray to
god that in days to come, i will not awake and rise
with the blood of the
afghan people dripping from my american hands.

9.16

may we ask for wisdom and, in possessing it, the moral
courage to exercise it.
may we ask to be emptied of hate so to attain harmony.
may we strive to comprehend one another.

9.17

for the first time since the attack, i enter a subway.
i go as far as broadway
& nassau and a walk to liberty street. i have my first
view of ground zero.
i come here with some reservation, as i do not wish to
trespass. but i want
some answer to a question vaguely formed. like a child
i want to see them,
or what is left of them, and say goodbye. i also
believe they will tell me
something of why i care for them so much, why i miss
them, and how they
should be remembered. in this pursuit i am ranted this
vision: from
liberty street i see their skeletal remains,
resembling brueghel's portrait
of babel. atop them two twisted fingers reach
heavenward in the perfect
shape of a v. the simple sign for peace.

we return to work. our mayor has wisely counseled us
to engage in our
daily human tasks. i know now why i mourn our towers.
because they
were young, and symbolized the optimistic strength of
our young nation.
my wall has twin sheets of paper. there is no image. i
have decided that is
my portrait. not what we see, but what we don't see
and will never see
again. two pure white sheets empty as the sky to the
right of my stoop
at the base of my street. PATTI SMITH

The performance at the Tate Modern on Friday, 8 September 2006 began
with screenings of the BBC Arena documentary about Robert
Mapplethorpe, directed by Nigel Finch in the mid-80s, and then Still
Moving, a short film with Patti Smith, directed by Mapplethorpe in
1978. The latter was shown on 16mm film, not video, which meant there
was a big improvement in sound and picture quality compared with the
version currently showing at the Alison Jacques Gallery.

The Starr Auditorium at the Tate Modern seats about 250. I'd arrived
early and so ended up in the front row not ideal for watching the
films, but excellent for the rest of the evening. As Still Moving
ended Patti got up from her seat in the auditorium, crossed the stage
to the microphone and read To The Reader from The Coral Sea. This
emotional reading grabbed the audience immediately and everyone was
too stunned to applaud at the end. Patti then hunted about for
guitar, found it, and pointed out that she was dressed exactly the
same as she had been at the Gallery the previous evening. She
initially claimed that she'd changed her underwear, then admitted that
wasn't true, as she was saving that for Monday.

I was surprised when she launched into Beneath the Southern Cross, as
I don't recall her having played that solo before (it's usually either
done with her band, or two guitars). This was a terrific performance
and ratched the level of the evening up a further notch.

Grateful was introduced by some thank-yous to the organisers of the
Mapplethorpe exhibition. Patti had a memory blank in the middle,
asked the audience what the next verse was, but seemingly no-one else
could remember either. She picked up anyway and finished the song.
At the end of the song she checked the tuning of her guitar, glanced
at the audience, and shrugged. Good enough, I suppose.

Next we were treated to two premieres. Patti first introduced a "new
poem" according to her handwritten setlist it is called Sword of
God. "I writ this little song right before I left and I've never
played it before." There was a pause as Patti realised she needed to
put the lyrics somewhere she could read from as she sang. She asked
the audience hopefully for some tape. A technician rushed up and
taped the words to her mic stand. The song was apparently about
Robert Mapplethorpe and began "I loved you through the seasons" the
setlist called it Seasons. Simple (Am-Em) and moving.

Hank Williams' I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry followed, beautifully
performed. Patti then recalled that when she had shown Still Moving
before her concerts in the late 70s she'd wanted to end it with her
jumping through the screen onto the stage an idea abandoned because
of cost and the need for "someone like Cocteau" to make it work.

Patti then read The Joker is Wild from Complete, and introduced a
reading of Wild Leaves with an explanation of how she'd decided not to
go to Robert's 40th birthday party, but wrote him the song instead.

Next were excellent performances of Qana (a new song, premiered
recently) and Wing. Patti explained that her occasional lapses were
due to her being "still on Icelandic time". She recounted how Paths
that Cross was written for Robert after the death of Sam Wagstaff. It
had "too many chords" so she read rather than sang it.

Perhaps conscious that the Starr Auditorium is often used for
lectures, Patti invited questions from the audience. The first one
was about drug use and Still Moving. The second was a request to sing
Kimberly Patti gamely sang one verse acappella. The third question
was about the status of poetry. Patti closed the show with My Blakean
Year with a break-down in the middle when Patti was put off by a
flash photograph.

The audience called for more and Patti returned to the stage to sing
Memorial Song acappella. This was a song written for Robert's
memorial service, and later used in a Derek Jarman film dedicated to
him.

A wonderful evening and marvellous to hear yet more new material. The
idea that the forthcoming "covers" album is a sign that Patti is not
writing new songs is clearly quite wrong.

Kind regards

Andrew
