The Coral Sea Sessions 12 September 2006

Hi everyone,

A quick review and setlist from last night's performance. Firstly, for
anyone who was lucky enough to be at the Queen Elizabeth Hall early, Patti
came and did a short solo performance to christen the new 'Living Room'
foyer area at about 6.50. She played 'Grateful' on acoustic guitar and then
performed 'People have the Power' as spoken word.

Then, for the main set in the hall itself she played the following, with the
same backing as on Sept 11 (a review of which was posted here yesterday,
hence abbrevaitions).

1. Wing (TS - acoustic guitar, GS - cello)
2. My madrigal (TS - piano, GS - cello)
3. Wild leaves (TS - piano, GS - cello)
4. Peaceable Kingdom (TS - piano, GS - cello)
5. Qana (TS - bass, GS - cello, JP - acoustic guitar)
6. Without chains take 1 (TS - acoustic guitar, GS - cello, JP - acoustic
guitar)
7. Without chains take 2 (TS - acoustic guitar, GS - cello, JP - acoustic
guitar)
8. Beneath the southern cross (PS - acoustic guitar, TS - bass, GS - cello,
JP - acoustic guitar, KS - electric guitar)

Then , after a short interval, Patti and Kevin performed The Coral Sea.

Some noteable points:

The whole show was recorded, and there was a big red sign on the side of the
stage that said 'Recording in progress' - nice touch!

Patti said this was the first time she had performed 'My Madrigal' since she
had recorded it. It was the most perfect version I could imagine, I'm so
glad to have been there to hear it. She said the version they recorded last
night would be available on her website for Fred's birthday this Thursday.
So check it out!

Without chains - some fun here. This song involves the audience singing
'without chains' at a point in the chorus. However, when Patti and Tony
explained what we had to do, they told us to sing 'in chains'. They did the
whole song with Tony and the audience singing 'in chains', before getting to
the end and realising it was wrong! So they did the whole song again, this
time with the correct words.

I really hope these recordings see the light of day. They sounded stripped
down and really beautiful, the cello adds something different and Patti was
really on form vocal wise. I was thinking last night it would be great to
have a 2CD set, one disc with the best vesrions of the songs played each
night and the second with whichever version of The Coral Sea Patti prefers.

So thanks Patti, Kevin and everyone involved, a wonderful evening.
Matthew.
