CBGB's final night will be Oct. 15 (not Sept. 30 as widely reported). Patti Smith will sing the last song as her longtime guitarist Lenny Kaye strums the last chord. The birthplace of punk attracted the likes of the Ramones, Television, the Talking Heads, Blondie and numerous other bands -although "CBGB" stands for country, bluegrass and blues. Patti Smith was the first artist from the scene to get signed - to Clive Davis' Arista Records in 1975 - so it's fitting that the poet laureate of punk rock will perform the last rites. The last night's lineup is undecided, although it's more than likely other luminaries will make an appearance. "It's up to Patti," says Hilly Kristal.
