become one of the people who is further down the line and passes it on to

Hi All,

Jackie got the discs from me and I captured the show from Sirrius Radio with
no flaws. This will be fine to share.

ps....where are all the B&P'ers that asked me for a copy......Jackie was the
only one who sent here B&P.

hi everybody,

at this point i've sent out about 20 sets of the CBGB show, and
i am maxed out. however, just about everyone i sent to agreed that they would
do the same, so if you didn't make it onto my list, just post a note to the
group, as there will be lots of copies floating around by next week.

BUT! i
screwed something up somewhere. i burned an identical number of each disc, and
after all the mail has gone out, i find myself with an extra copy of disc #2.
so, if anyone who i sent CDs to finds that they are missing #2, please just
email me and i will send it along.

and here i thought i was a model of virgo
efficiency, getting all this out so quickly. ah well.

have a great day!

Although I've actually been on this list since day 1 I don't think I've
ever posted anything but here goes. Last month my wife went to Paris on
business to cover the opening of an exhibit at he Pompidou by the
graphic design arm of Benetton called Fabrica. It was also Benneton's
40th birthday so there was a fashion show and dinner on the 10th. With
her airfare and hotel paid it would be an affordable long weekend to
Paris so I tagged along.

As we were waiting for the fashion show to start who should walk in but
Patti. She sat not far from us, with some, but little, commotion and I
figured I'd go talk to her. As the CBGB show was coming up that weekend
she told me what the band had planned for it and we just chatted briefly.

After the fashion show (my first) there was a dinner upstairs at the
Pompidou and when we walked upstairs there was a jazz group playing (I
think Eric Reed, but I'm not sure). They finished and sometime between
the appetizer and amazingly, Patti was introduced as the next performer
(we had no idea that there was going to be any entertainment at all).

Patti took the stage alone, with an accoustic guitar and announced that
she was the evening's "comic relief" and opened with "Wing". Next was a
spoken word version of "People Have the Power" then, with the guitar
again "My Blakean Year" and finally an amazing acapella version of
"Because the Night". I felt privileged.

I happened to have my camera with me and took a few shots - they're here:

Enjoy.

Wow, Jonathan, you must have been in heaven when you saw Patti walk into the
Pompidou Centre, thinking you were in another world and then having that
familiar face stroll in. What a moment that must have been. Your pictures
are incredible.

I used to live in New York in the 90s till 2002 and used to see her on Sixth
Avenue a lot when she after picking Jesse up from private school, or walking
in front of her house on MacDougal Street where it crosses Houston. She was
always very appreciative when I would stop and chat and let her know how
much I enjoyed the concerts. You lucked out on this one, and I'm sure she
wasn't expecting to run into an American there either.

Greetings Babelitsa's

Thanks to the wonderful Jackie Sheeler I have just received the 3 disc set
of the CBGB final show. I will to make 5 copies (one of which is already
spoken for) first come first serve. I have a crazy busy week ahead but will
get them burned as fast as I can. Please be willing to re-offer, I will also
consider 1 or 2 of the burner less.

Please reply off list.

godspeed

Scott

For those of you in the NYC area, I wanted to let you
know about this show coming up on Sunday evening in
the Village.

Patti herself has described Janet as her 'mentor' and
they are long-time friends.

For those of you familiar with Janet's work with
Moving Star, this will be different as the set will be
acoustic with more focus on her poetry.

It should be a great evening and it's an early (6
pm)one for all the folks that have to get up on Monday
morning and it's a very short walk from the West 4th
St. Subway stop.

Spread the word.

Hope to see you there.

Mary

offer it up for the first five respondents off-list. Trades welcome as well

Gary Lucas, Patricia Morrison, and I, and assorted guests will be
presenting a tribute/memorial to the writer David Walley on November
9, at the Bowery Poetry Club, 308 on that venerated street, at 11
p.m.. We'll be celebrating David's biographies of Frank Zappa and
Ernie Kovacs, with selections from "Freak Out With The Mothers of
Invention" and the Nairobi Trio, and reading David's words. A treat.
David was the first person who got me a journalistic job in the biz,
and I am happy to salute him. best: Lenny

I am always too late to get in on the CBGB offer . will someone offer to
take care of this Canadian in Ontario .Please send me your offer off list
. Ihave a CD burner that I do not know how to use yet ...then I can extend
this offer to others as well

I did receive the Bowery Ballroom Patti New Year 2005 bash from Mike in
Kansas ...answer coming via snail mail Mike !!...he used a RIDATA 52 x
80mm/70MB ...that works in my CD player for those two discs . I have had
others that just did not connect on my player ...a middle of the road
radio/cd player . that works fine for purchased CDs but I believe I need to
get a better one .

He sent me three more Patti discs on Hypermedia multispeed 80min/700Mb
and they do not playback...two discs for Obscurities and one for
Roots . I could swap these for somebody for the 3 discs from CBGB. I AM
hoping Mike will do these for me again with the Ridata discs...grin...hope
he is reading this !

He also sent me a couple of Patti DVDs ...one thru the years of recorded TV
appearances on Late Night shows like Letterman ...that is wonderful as you
see these musicians mature ....from their first show at CBGB in
1975!....and one at Towers Records in NYC filmed over the shoulders of
others at a live performance that is quite amazing as a close-up view
of Patti in action ...she really is so comfortable in her own skin. She
had a polaroid camera and was taking pics of her audience and was funny
with the comments about the man in the front row ruining one image [much
laughter ] and then another kidding someone about wanting to get INTO the
picture after she had taken it .The honestly authentic glow she puts out
is really incandescent. I hope I will be able to see her perform live some
day before she ...or I ...depart this earth . Her DOI and her Gandhi are
faves of mine ,among others , but she and her music are still new to me .
I really do enjoy her distinctive voice...no others quite like it .

Hoping to hear from somebody ...thanx to Mike I do have a swap for
somebody who may want Roots and Obscurities ...3 discs for 3

Yvonne on a wet rainy day and it is dark at 5pm already . I think winter
arrived ...we have had snow flurries already during the past week .

Hello,

Thanks to the wonderful Jackie (and her benefactor) I have Patti's final
CBGB's show to offer. It sounds great and certainly has a wonderful
cross section of songs. I was at the show and it brought it all back
vividly,especially at high volume.

Right now I can offer three copies to the first three that respond to
this off list. No trading, blank CD's,etc are necessary. It would be
great to have two people that can further burn copies and offer them and
one person that doesn't have burning capabilities. Please remember to
include your mailing address.

Still high on rebellion.

Dave

Hello,

I have enough responses for this including people that will burn and
trade further copies. Thanks to all the Patti fans for keeping this

I watched a movie last night called After Life. Here's a review of it:
http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/19990806/REVIEWS/90
8060301/1023
The premise of the movie is that people die, and they are in an intermediate
state between heaven and earth. Each person has to choose one memory from his
or her life, and then they will go on to heaven and just take that one memory
with them.

So I got to thinking about different good memories from my life, and thought
about my favorite rock n roll moments. I think for me #1 would be during
Patti's 1995 tour with Bob Dylan. Patti and Bob had played a few concerts,
with Patti opening for Bob each night, but then when they got to Boston, late
in Bob's set, Patti came back out on stage and they sang a duet of Bob's song
"Dark Eyes". It was incredibly beautiful and I think if I had to choose one
musical moment from my life, that would be it.

How about others, what are your favorite musical moments?

- Mitch

my favorite moment took place in 1984. i was going to see r.e.m for the
first time at the aragon ballroom in chicago. they opened with the
velvet underground's "femme fatale" (which i hate to admit but i wasn't
familiar with at the time). it was pretty mellow and an ok, start to a
show by the band that would eventually become my favorite. they finished
"femme fatale" and immediately segued into "radio free europe" and after
the immediate recognition of the song the floor bowed and the place went
wild. the feeling of the floor and the entire crowd reacting lives with
me still.

Don't get me started. I saw Dylan in NYC a few years a go play a
version of his song Silvio that was amazing, really powerful; really
loud but I wanted it louder; layers of rhythm; real rock and roll, a
wall of sound but (not like Phil Spector), sort of Dylan pays like he
was the Rolling Stones; I obviously can't describe it but I wished it
would never end. Gives me chills just thinking about it. But....
There was the Stones at Altamont-I missed them but was there and
heard alot; there was the time I rode the elevator in my building
with one of the Ramones (their manager lived there); passing Allen
Ginsberg in the door to the St. Marks Church-But the moment that was
the best: The Lower Manhattan Ocean Club in the 70's, I'm eating out
and my girlfriend sees Patti and some friends eating dinner there and
goes up to her and says: "Patti I know this is gauche but would you
sign this?" (a cigarette package wrapper which I still have which she
signed "Radio Ethiopium") and when I asked her last year, my friend
doesn't remember this anymore....

... Was at Carnegie Hall in Pittsburgh a couple of years ago. Carnegie Hall
had been the venue of my father's band, the River City Brass Band. He was
the director, the founder, and the conductor. I spent many proud evenings in
the audience, watching my father conduct the band that he worked so hard
for, that he loved so dearly. He passed away in December 1994 (although the
Band lives on).
Moving forward ten years - December 9, 2004, 10 years and 6 days after my
dad's passing. Patti's doing a fundraiser for a local Pittsburgh radio
station at Carnegie Hall in Pittsburgh. She's standing RIGHT WHERE my dad
used to raise his baton, singing "Mother Rose." I've brought my 10 year old
daughter and my husband. We watch, transfixed (our upteenth Patti concert,
Willa's first).... As if that weren't enough, we had tickets to join the
post-concert reception. There my daughter introduced herself to Patti and
received a birthday present: a long black shoestring that Patti pulled out
of her jacket pocket - it's not much, but it's been all over the world with
me.... What a night.

The new issue of PUNK is available.

You can buy it online or look for it at local newsstands and
bookstores. (We will list sales locations as soon as we can.)

The new issue of PUNK features stories on New York City punk rock bands
The Bullys, The Cyclones, Turbo AC's, Peelander-Z, and Two Man
Advantage. There's also a story about the reasons behind the closing of
CBGB and a bunch of rare photographs of the Ramones from 1976-1978.
There are also some funny comic strips by Robert Romagnoli, Ken Avidor,
Rick Trembles, Avi Spivak and John Holmstrom as well as Bruce
Carleton's Punk Rock Family Tree. Then there are the usual favorites:
Reviews, advertisements, and filler. Just in case you keep track, the
last regular issue of PUNK was numbered #17, the new issue is numbered
#19. We hope to publish PUNK #18 in the near future. We're also
planning brand-new issues of PUNK, including a special issue on the
history of CBGB.

Joey Ramone Place Unveiled
11/30/03

[demime 1.01a removed an attachment of type image/jpeg which had a name of joeys_2_150x200.jpg]
THE Joey Ramone Place street sign was unveiled at 2nd Street and The
Bowery in New York City on November 30th at 2:30 p.m. Before the sign
was shown to the whole world,
an hour-long tribute was held inside CBGBs where dozens of Joey's
friends and relatives spoke, including Tommy Ramone, Marky Ramone, Jim
Jarmusch, Richie Stotts, Andy Shernoff, Handsome Dick Manitoba, Danny
Fields and Hilly Kristal.

Joey's brother Mickey Leigh and mom Charlotte Lesher hosted the event,
while Legs McNeil and John Holmstrom handled emcee duties. City Council
members Alan Jay Gerson and Margarita Lopez represented the City of New
York during the ceremonies, along with Community Liaison Bradford
Sussman, who presented a proclamation announcing that November 30 was
Joey Ramone Day!

[demime 1.01a removed an attachment of type image/jpeg which had a name of joeys_1_206x150.jpg]
The event was attended by around 2000 people. People who arrived early
enough squeezed into a jammed CBGBs during the tribute and then
everyone crowded the sidewalk during the unveiling - causing massive
traffic disruptions and creating an amazing scene for the hundreds of
cameras there. The media turnout was impressive, since AP, The New York
Post (NYC's true hometown paper), 1010 WINS Newsradio, NY1 TV News and
dozens of other media outlets covered the event. In fact, all local TV
and print news outlet carried the story all weekend, and CNN even
mentioned Joey Ramone Place in their news ticker.

We'll provide more coverage and photos of the event soon.

..was at Bumbershoot in Seattle in 1995. Patti was to play in the arena
Saturday night. I was there with a group of friends from my work who were
all at least 10 years younger than me. It was a hot summer day, and being
an event spread over the Seattle Center we were forced to pens (beer
gardens) to have beers. We were at the beer garden on the west edge of the
center near the wild card stage. It was the wild card stage because they
didn't announce who would be there. It could be a juggler, comedian, etc.
I was in the beer garden behind the stage next to chain link fence. I
happened to glance up the fence about 30 feet. and saw a woman and a man
talking to someone to the fence, looked away and thought... she looks
familar, looked back it was Patti. She then walked right past me on the
other side of the fence (about 3 feet). Me being the mature 30 something I
was at the time, couldn't form words, I stood there making weak noises about
Patti, Patti. One of my friends asked what was wrong, and my girl friend
told them it was Patti Smith. Chad said who's that, Bryan said some singer I
was in love with. Just then they announced Patti on the wild card stage to
do spoken word. I was ecstatic, my friends left to see the Jimi Hendrix
guitar competition. My girl friend and I went to the stage side where we
were about 20 feet from her, she did some poems and then Tony came out with
a guitar and she sang a few songs. It was fantastic.

Greetings!

I enjoyed listening to the CBGB's CDs on a long car trip last weekend. Each
way I had the feeling like it was my own private little concert in the car.
Wonderful to have to time to just drive and listen for so many hours in a
row. Thanks again so much Jackie for all the work you did, copying and
sending out so many CDs. It really is a labour of love.

And the CDs that I promised people are in the mail - including the BAM shows
for you, Jackie! Maybe just write me a quick note when you all get them, so
I know they got there all right. Thanks.

Best wishes to all,

Alice

  Hi All,

A kind soul sent me the CBGB's discs, and now it's my turn to send out copies to the first five people who request them off list. Does anyone still have the link to the cover art for the CD cases?

If anyone has the BAM shows for trade, please contact me. I was there for both of them.

I wish all a Happy Thanksgiving. Being a Luddite and new to all this, please forgive me if I've violated some list serve, trading, Internet, etc. ettiquite.

 Be well,

 Kent
