If the direction is near contemporaries, then Springsteen's eloquence would
be wonderful.
Lou Reed, Bowie, and even Debbie Harry may also do a decent job. The former
Blondie singer would be able to share personal anecdotes from Patti's
formative years, which could be moving and/or humorous. I have to admit I'm
not familiar with the speechmaking skills of these folks, though.
If the choice is among those she's influenced, Fiona Apple, Alanis
Morissette, Liz Phair, PJ Harvey, or Shirley Manson of Garbage are also
possibilities. But El Bono remains the current age's poet laureate of
choice, especially for R&R HoF awards.
