The judge was appointed last year by George Bush, so he's probably not a former radical.
He's a former president of the California Bar Association, and worked for a large corporate law firm specializing in business law. He dismissed a law suit against WalMart (I have no idea what the legal merits were). And he represented the City of Anaheim in its suit against the Angels baseball team.
On the other hand, he has apparently done a LOT of pro-bono work representing poor people.
