Awesome show last night. I wasn't expecting a full-blown
tribute to Fred "Sonic" Smith, but just another 12-tour
performance. Anyway, That's what it was.
Lots of special guests coming and going (Luis Resto, Flea,
Rich Robinson, Zeke (Shein?), Jack (Petuzelli?), PS'
daughter Jesse. Show opened with two low-key rarities:
"Going Under", which PS said was written in anticipation
of Jesse's birth; and "My Madrigal". These featured
Flea and Luis. Then a short (she pledged seven minute)
intermission, before the show proper.
Lots of funny and sweet stories about Fred, most of
which the hardcores have probably heard already. She also
hinted that the stories would be told through the songs,
which they were. (2nd Penultimate performance: "My
Generation" (!), which was the first song Fred joined
Patti (and band) on, in March of 1976.)
Final number was "Farewll Real", with Jesse on ukelele.
Really sweet interplay as PS struggled with the strumming.
Anyway, lots more later as I'm on a public terminal in NYC
and folks are waiting. Yikes....
