Re: Oxford & Cambridge

Not for nothing, but I can understand where the person that wrote that
comment was coming from. It has nothing to do with the quality of the shows and
how tight a band can get from constant playing. It was more like, well, back in
'93 when all of a sudden there was a Patti reading scheduled after how many
years of her absence, that was a Special Event with capital letters, something
you dropped everything else to attend because you might never see that again
in your life. And it was a magical night. Then more Central Park shows and
opening for Dylan in the mid-90s, those were still special, they were still
rare. The quality of the show wasn't what it is now, but the rarity made them
something to desire to attend (and it was interesting to watch Patti get her
groove back).
I think the original columnist might be worried that too-frequent shows
will make a Patti event too common, less special. I can remember in the
mid-80s, it seemed that the Ramones were playing around by me almost every two
weeks, and it became very easy to say, "oh, they'll be back, I'll catch them next
time." They became somewhat less than special. No, a Patti show is not the
same as a Ramones show, it's more of a singular event, but I can understand
why the original writer might think it could lose its cachet by being too
common. Dandelions would be held in high regard if they were rare and seldom  seen;
they're very common, though, and easily overlooked. Either way, their beauty
is the same.

You know, about the comment that Patti and the boys are playing too much. How
stupid can you be? When they performed on the left coast this year, one of
the main reasons that they were the best shows EVER is because they've been
touring and playing so much.
