William Blake

Today is William Blake's 250th birthday. There are various events
happening around London to mark the occasion, including an ice
sculpture at Bunhill Fields and some impromtu performances in the
Blake room at the Tate Gallery. If you have not already bought a copy
of Patti Smith's selection of Blake's Poems, published earlier this
month by Vintage Classics, today would be a good day to seek it out.
The book includes a three-page introduction by Patti, the first
two-thirds of which is amongst the very best of her prose writings. "A
rough-hewn seer who never tasted but English air, who loved
Michelangelo, but never saw Rome".

Kind regards

Andrew
